MRT SSP Line tunnelling works begin

Tunnelling works for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line officially began on 1 March 2018.

The first of twelve Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) that will be used for the MRT SSP Line was launched at the Bandar Malaysia North Launching Shaft at Bandar Malaysia.

Eight of the twelve TBMs were used for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line and refurbished at the TBM Refurbishment Plant in Perak.

The TBM was launched from a deep, pre-excavated shaft or tunnel portal. Four new machines purchased from Herrenknecht Tunnelling Machinery Co. Ltd, Guangzhou, China, will also be used.

At the launch, Dato’ Najmuddin Abdullah, MRT Corp Director — Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Relations and Mohd Fuad Kamal Ariffin, MMC Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd General Manager — Operations discussed the significance of the milestone.
