The first viaduct span for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line was successfully erected at the Kepong Baru Station site.

Every viaduct span requires 13 segmental box girder (SBG) units to be launched into position using either the Launching Gantry (LG) method, the Crane Erect Trestle (TSC) system or the Balanced Cantilever Segmental Launching (BSCL) technique.

Steel cables are threaded through ducts that are cast inside the segments once the SBGs are in position.

The cables are then stressed in a way that all pre-cast segments are fused together to form a continuous, standard span of the viaduct. About 95 per cent of the MRT SSP Line will be constructed using this LG method.

The rest of the elevated tracks will use the BSCL and TSC method, usually for sections spanning railways, bustling highways and broad rivers.

When most of the viaducts are completed, track-laying works on these viaducts will then take place to form the 38.7km elevated section of the MRT SSP Line.

Phase one of the MRT SSP Line will be completed by July 2021, with the entire line fully operational by 2022.
